Share (LAN) Folder with Samba on Ubuntu 16.04

Remove previous samba installations:

sudo apt-get remove --purge samba-common
sudo apt-get remove --purge samba

 

Refer to “Anonymous Samba Sharing”:

1. Install samba.

sudo apt-get install -y samba samba-common python-glade2 system-config-samba

2. Back up samba configuration file.

sudo cp -pf /etc/samba/smb.conf /etc/samba/smb.conf.bak

3. Edit the samba configuration file.

sudo nano /etc/samba/smb.conf
[global]
workgroup = WORKGROUP
server string = Samba Server %v
netbios name = ubuntu
security = user
map to guest = bad user
dns proxy = no

[Anonymous]
path = /samba/anonymous
browsable =yes
writable = yes
guest ok = yes
read only = no
force user = nobody

4. Create the samba share.

mkdir -p /samba/anonymous
chmod -R 0775 /samba/anonymous
chown -R nobody:nogroup /samba/anonymous

5. Restart samba.

service smbd restart
